Well, in the first case, my friend tried installation on a disk with XP,
already installed. Thus partitions were created for Ubuntu when
installer started.
As this installation failed (see the messages in my 1st post), he tried
it on a blank one, but he got a message of failure juste before
I confirm that maverick emacs23 (23.1+1-4ubuntu7) fails to show custom
menus on a vanilla install, and that removal of appmenu-gtk
(0.1.9-0ubuntu4) apparently fixes the bug.

The battery indicator in gnome no longer tells me how long/how much charge the
battery has left, instead it just says Laptop battery (estimating...).
