Huh, looks like stack corruption and a crash in the nvidia driver. I
suppose it's possible we could be the ones corrupting the stack and
causing the crash.

I have solved the problem by restarting the computer. Another user
alerted me to the fact that the networking applet Wicd can give
unreliable information, and that Evolution can ¨think¨ the computer is
offline when in fact it is connected to the internet.

please file this as a Debian bug and suggest alternative wording there.
