Thanks EffE, assuming both alsa-infos were taken with headphones plugged
in, I do notice a difference in the way the speaker pin is muted - via
Amp-Out mute in the auto model and via Pin-ctl in the toshiba model. Can

I have the same problem when using natty (all updates installed as of
today) in Virtual Box 4.0.4 (Windows), using the classic desktop. gnome-
settings-daemon crashes about 30 sec. after login, no matter whether the
vbox guest additions are installed or not. (The following .xsession-

ITK - It just occurred to me - if I make a boot USB drive with a
persistence file, will there be any more useful information on the USB
drive after the crash? I've no idea what goes into the persistence
filesystem - but if you think it would help, I'll have a go.
