Much the same occurs with Gutsy, Hardy and Lucid. Various alternative methods
for loading the adapter module
a) Great, forget those old problems, lets create some exciting new ones.
b) Why use the term `modern' in a slightly pejorative sense? The laws of
physics and the principles
of good software design have not changed in my 40-50 year association with
both.
b) The AHA1542 was under
Adobe Flash 10 crashes for me as described above.

Cannot open or save files with windows apps
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gedit
a) No idea what Ubuntu version I have as that information is well hidden
(extremely annoying).
b) The Update Manager claims everything is up to date as of one hour ago.
c) The Windows applications I have tried (gedit, gimp) `disappear' as soon as

Cannot open
To access passworded windows shares froma fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04,
the following worked for me:
Add the following line to /etc/samba/smb.conf:
client lanman auth = yes
--
