I've tested it, and it seems that Ubuntu 8.04 didn't detected the modem
when it was installed (it is a fresh install). Aren't Agere LT
Winmodems supported out of the box?
The modem appears listed when running lspci command, but the module is
not running.

Since this bug was reported a while ago, things have changed. Now I have
a broadband connection which uses the ethernet card, and works
perfectly. I don't have the old phone line anymore, so I can't test if
the problem persists. I'm not very sure about this, but it seems to me
that the

It sounds familiar to me, it seems to be the same bug as me, but I use a
LT modem, not a smartlink.
Perhaps the problem is in ALSA
