The installation media uses the open source driver "nouveau" for nVidia
cards, and recent GPUs are not always well supported. It is recommended

In bionic I couldn't verify the original bug because the HWE packages in
18.04.4 don't seem to be affected by this bug.
However, on 18.04.4 I uninstalled the HWE stack and replaced it by the
packages in proposed and couldn't reproduce this issue. I didn't notice
any other problem with the update.

chance to have the full log or if there is nothing else in the logs,
that you can see what is stuck when this error happens?
