Public bug reported:
When starting the image box 'ubuntu/bionic64' (v20171206.0.0) for
virtualbox in MacOS, I get this error:
bash: line 4: /sbin/ifdown: No such file or directory
sed: can't read /etc/network/interfaces: No such file or directory

This may is related with:
https://github.com/fgrehm/vagrant-cachier/issues/175
The solution to add the configuration on Vagrantfile did worked for me:
config.cache.synced_folder_opts = {
owner: "_apt",
Looks like the _apt issue is a different one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/aptitude/+bug/1543280/comments/16
And looks to be related to some confusion of the sources setup by
default.

Still getting this error, and creating the user / home directory /
remove temporary folder.
What i noticed is that the install is with
Environment: Mac 10.11.6 Beta (15G26a)
Virtualbox: 5.0.20 r106931
Vagrant: 1.8.1
Box: http://people.canonical.com/~dwatkins/livecd.ubuntu-cpc.vagrant.2.box
After:
$> vagrant up
$> vagrant ssh
#> sudo su
#> apt-get update
I still getting:
[...]
Get:15 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
Reading package lists... Done
W: Can't drop privileges for downloading as file
'/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_yakkety_InRelease'
couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. - pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permission denied)
The other issues look to be all fixed.
Cheers,
Luis Ferro

Then i suppose that a new bug is entered into synaptics and linked to
this bug so that users affected by this can see that it is being handled
insted of "ignored" by a invalid / triaged status?
Just tested on the "release" version of xenial and it still happens.

There is a quick fix for this issue, which is to add the full path of
the file in the ini file loading the extension.
Some extensions that give this error will load with this work around
without issues (zend-opcache on php 5.3 for instance).
