Hello all. I am helping a senior citizen who has recently visited the Ubuntu
Hour down in Pasadena. His old modem has finally bit the dust and Im in
search of another one for him as he no longer has access to the internet. He
is on a very strict budget and I am having problems locating a 56k modem
Thank you to all who replied. Right now he is paying only $7 a month with
lafn.org, and to save money on dial up there is also socalfree.net which is
free dial up, but I have not tested this service out yet. I did also
recommend getting DSL but the $15/month looks out of this persons budget.
I'd

Come on by and meet up for the Pasadena Ubuntu Hour location! This is an
informal gathering. Chat about linux, Ubuntu, the weather... it doesnt
matter. Lets just get together! We hold this Ubuntu Hour at Peet's Coffee on
the 2nd Thursday of every month from 6pm to
It sure doesnt hurt to experiment with different times and see what works.
If more than one sole person shows up, Id say its a success! And many times
there will be far more people at a place to eat during lunch time then say
6pm when everyone is out driving. Ive been to Subway, Starbucks, etc at
and find out what doesnt work too.

This sounds like the best way to go about it. Find out what everyone wants
and go for it. This is an Ubuntu Hour... you dont really have to do research
and plan it out
Hi Bob! Ive had the same problem at work. We have blueprints in PDF that are
large files, or manuals that need to be printed and it almost feels like the
print job gets bottlenecked somewhere. Documents either take forever to
print, or never print at all. Ive found a couple of solutions that have

Hello Cali Members! I am planning to place an order from the Ubuntu shop if
anyone is interested.

Purchasing a couple items yourself from the store can be *REALLY* pricey
because of the shipping. From a little research, here is how the shipping
prices tend to go.

I also like the 3 person setup. If I recall correctly, Switzerland has
a council instead of just one single leader or advisor and it seems
to work out well for them. Nice country anyways :)
What are the roles of the elected leadership for Ubuntu California?
Thanks, Dave

Nathan,
Have you done a completely new fresh install of Lucid? My boot times were
pretty decent after an upgrade, but I noticed big improvements after I had
backed up my data and did a clean fresh install of 10.04. I dont know if Im
at a 10 second boot time, but I think Im in the 15-20 seconds

showing the purple gwibber icon.
