I installed Lucid on the same machine and have had a couple of X server

Thanks again.
I am travelling and it will take me a few days to get back to the server and
post the output you want. Please bear with this.

I have two days ago attached an external TFT monitor to my HP Compaq

using System-Preferences-Display as a mirror.
I have noticed that the external viewsonic monitor suddenly

It happened again! Soon after I filed the report. My observation is that
it is related to mouse movements. Something happens to X at certain
points when the mouse is moving.
By the way, I have an external USB mouse attached to my notebook

Dual Monitor Blanks Out Suddenly
To add to what I finally did to get a working Karmic Install - I use the
X11 Vesa driver. The system freezes etc. have stopped and I have been
able to get work done. But obviously, this is not the best of solutions.
So hoping that the bug is fixed

To report further, the system worked well for a few days and froze once

I would like to confirm that this exists in Ubuntu 9.10 too. After
applying the fixes posted by Nathan Eriksmoen I got this:

Is there any solution to this?
Grateful for help

This is new to Karmic. I have not had this problem before. I first tried
to go into a virtual console using Alt+F1 etc. The system froze. It
could not be contacted by another machine on the network. I reformatted
twice and performed a clean install.
