Ok my sources.list points to
deb file:media/disk/ubuntu/dvd710_1/ubuntu gutsy main
multiverse universe
and the files Packages.gz
/media/disk-1/ubuntu/dvd710_1/dists/gutsy/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz
ok so i did the following
copied the first dvd of the set to a usb disk
location /media/disk/ubuntu7_10/dvd710_1/ubuntu/dists/
added the following line to sources.list
deb file:///media/disk/ubuntu7_10/dvd710_1/ubuntu main multiverse universe
then did the atp-get update and the following are
