[ubuntu-in] startup logs?
hi, there seems to be some problem with some of my startup scripts, it kind of freezes in the default mode, but works fine when using 'Failsafe GNOME', is there any log file for the normal startup, which will allow me to find out the script causing the error?? Im fairly fortunate in that I am a Parish Councillor for Roffey North. As a result I get the opportunity to provide some input into content and conversations in the local parish newspaper, thuogh i am in no way an editor or would intend to use it as a platform . We also have a local open access Internet room at the Parish Hall ( heh I sound quite parochial here ! ) which I hope will be happy to carry some OSS CDs for people to take away. Pretty much every town and village in the UK has some form of local governance that will consist of community members and they may be very much unaware of what Open Source software is doing and how well it works. If you ( like Alan ) are feeling that you are getting blocked by one method of access whilst talking about OSS then you might consider talking to your parish councilors about the possibility of providing OSS software to the community. There are so many ways to approach our own local communities ( in the non OSS term ) that every one of us here must have some experiences of what has worked. Bear in mind though that what fails or was a problem for one person may really take off and work well for another so dont let someones stories of failures and problems deter you from having a go, were all different in our approaches and successes. Yes, certainly a way of reaching a few people (understatement of the year there, I feel - a few villages of a few hundred people makes quite a few bodies!). Keep us up to date on this, as I'm planning an article to go in my student newspaper next year at some point. I'll contribute what I can to this. We already have the wiki, it works, multiple people have managed to upload content. It's a shame that the community can't redistribute the streams in OGG format on behalf of these media companies. Doesn't take much to do it, I manage to distribute streaming internet radio around my network by downloading the stream in mplayer and piping it to Ices which streams it out in OGG format so I can listen on any computer on my network without using double the internet bandwidth. Caro Fernando, Acho que já tive um problema parecido. Só consegui resolver o problema depois que coloquei o ip fixo no roteador linksys. Parece que o problema todo está na hora em que o linksys tenta pegar ip no modem D-Link. Entre na console web do linksys e vá na aba status. Veja se ele pegou algum IP do modem. Caso negativo, plugue o modem novamente direto no micro, dê um # ifconfig e anote as informações de ip, subrede, dns e gateway. Depois ligue tudo de novo no linksys e abra sua console web. Na aba setup - basic setup, selecione a opção static ip e preencha os campos abaixo. salve no botao save settings e tente pra ver deu certo. Isso tudo só é válido se seu modem D-link estiver configurado como ROUTER. Espero ter ajudado. Olá a todos! Bom, gostaria de alguma opinião sobre o que está acontecendo aqui: Estou fazendo um joguinho para um trabalho de faculdade em java, usando applet, no windows XP ele roda normalmente, atraves do netbeans, mas se eu rodo no ubuntu fica muito lento, demora mais para carregar e para capturar os eventos de teclado, a velocidade fica bem mais lenta tbm! O que é triste, pois eu queria usar o ubuntu para desenvolver, mas a situacao esta me forcando a usar o win! Pensei em otimizacao de codigo, mas por mais que o codigo esteja nojento(e está), a performace deveria ser pelo menos igual ao win, certo?! Se alguem puder me dar uma luz, eu ficaria grato! Vc está usando a mesma JVM para ambos os sistemas operacionais? Por exemplo, a da Sun? A máquina com Ubuntu tem a mesma configuração de hardware da com Windows? Oi gente! O computador é um desktop com placa de rede pci e um modem SpeedStream 5200 com velox. Não consegui descobrir se é bridge ou router, não estava em casa quando o técnico veio trazer o modem... :/ Sim, eu sei o que é pppoeconf. :) Rodo ele, ele encontra a interface em eth0 e tenta detectar a rede, me respondendo Sorry, I scanned 1 interface, but the Access Concentrator of your provider... e mais um blábláblá dizendo que não funfou. Ou seja, não tem como eu entrar com login nem senha nem nada. No gnome, brinquei em SistemaAdministraçãoRede, colocando IP dinâmico (dhcp), ativando a interface e rodando o pppoeconf, desativando, rodando o pppoeconf de novo, e nada. Já faz uns dias que pesquiso, via internet discada (a brincadeira tá ficando cara!) pra tentar achar solução e não vi ninguém na mesma situação que estou. Alguma ajuda? Até onde lembro, esse modem funciona nos dois modos. Acredito que o dispositivo criado não seja o /dev/slamr0, mas sim o /dev/ttySL0, tenho um modem AC97, configurado, ainda não testei dial-up, mas o SLMODEM quando inicializa, cria esse dispositivo, já tentou chegar seu /var/log/messages ou /var/log/syslog ou até mesmo o dmesg para saber qual é o dispositivo criado? Outra coisa, no meu caso, ele já cria automaticamente um link para /dev/modem. Temos um roteador wireless DLink e, quando eu ligo o note lá, ele localiza a rede pelo nome (a barra de sinal fica quase cheia), quando eu seleciono a rede, ele pede autenticação (e eu uso a mesma senha que o resto do pessoal que usa Windows), mas nada acontece. As três barrinhas que mostram o sinal ficam vazias, e quando passo o mouse por cima fica 0%. Além desses problemas, o terceiro é com a rede ethernet. O roteador serve DHCP para a rede (todos lá usam desta forma). E foi assim que eu deixei configurada a minha linha por cabo. No entanto tive dificuldade para acessar a rede nos primeiros dias (conectava e perdia a conexão em seguida), até que sem que eu fizesse nada, passei três dias acessando a rede normalmente (chegava, conectava e funcionava). Mas ontem outra pessoa precisou usar o mesmo cabo que eu estava usando e, ao tentar reconectar no meu computador, nada de rede. Parece que o computador não requisita o IP ao servidor DHCP (não entendo disso). E para piorar a situação, acho que a placa de rede está queimada (quando a conecto ao roteador, a luzinha correspondente não acende nem a pau). Peço desculpas pela longa carta, mas preciso mesmo de ajuda para configurar pelo menos um meio de acesso à rede e à internet. Quando eu usava o Beryl, tinha um íconezinho na barra de tarefas que me permitia ligar e desligar o Beryl (uso muito esse recurso para rodar programas em tela cheia, pra não judiar tanto do PC), mas não encontrei o pacote que me permita fazer isso no Fusion. Alguém pode me dizer como posso, facilmente, ligar e desligar o Fusion? Просмотр защищённых DVD . Что делать?
Всем привет. Вот и до нас добралась проблема лицензионных DVD, купил, принёс, два часа мучался... Вопрос: когда диск с отметкой защищено от копирования не проигрывается - что делать? В магазине менять диск отказались, сославшись на его работу в их DVD-проигрывателе (у меня нет ни DVD-проигрывателя ни телевизора). Симптомы следующие: VLC media player dvdread error: read failed for block 3456 mplayer dvd:/ Много строк в стиле *** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:2019 *** *** for vts_attributes-last_byte + 1 = VTS_ATTRIBUTES_MIN_SIZE *** с итоговым libdvdread: Invalid main menu IFO (VIDEO_TS.IFO). gxine говорит то же. Тотем просто графически сообщает об ошибке. cpdvd: MenuVOB: 152 blocks, 311296 bytes, 1 MB - 1 target file(s) writing '/tmp/./VIDEO_TS.VOB' (152 blocks, 311296 bytes, 1 MB) Read error at block 0 from DVDReadBlocks! ERROR: Got error result while executing 'cpvts -d /dev/scd0 -t 1 /tmp/.' Привет всем! Пользуюсь стандартной фичей монтирования фтпшников, через меню переходподключиться к серверу. До перехода на feisty все работало на ура, а теперь спустя месяц после перехода заметил что не соединяеццо он больше через эту тему, выдает окошко аля"подо4дите или отмена", и тихонечно тупит до истечения таймаута. dual boot
Bonjour, Pour faire mes premiers pas sur Ubuntu, j'ai installé un second HD sur mon PC. WINDOWS est sur le Maître, UBUNTU sur l'esclave. Le tout fonctionne avec un dualboot (grub) installé automatiquement au moment de l'installation d'UBUNTU J'envisage de transporter le disque Ubuntu sur une autre machine. Je ne sais pas encore si cette machine sera dédiée entièrement à Ubuntu ou aussi en dual boot. [Bug 126095] Firefox repeatedly crashes for no reason whatsoever, which never happens on Winblows.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox I really don't know if it's an actual bug or not. All I know is, when using Ubuntu, Firefox crashes every now and then for no reason what so ever. This doesn't happen for the first week after install(I've tested this twice). After a week though, Firefox begins to crash sometimes, as well as other apps on Ubuntu. Linux is great and all, but this is one area that needs to be stopped. This doesn't even happen on Winblows. hi, I have no ASUS Notebook as you can see in my system specs but the same NIC. My system does never freeze, I only get slow filetransfer speed. I have tested the latest kernel-driver from realtek ftp://209.216.61.149/cn/nic/r8168-8.002.00.tar.bz2 which performs to 99% well. I only get slow upload speed, if I transfer many small files over smbfs/cifs. Have you tried to install the latest bios from Asus (version BIOS 0806 from 2007/05/07) maybe this helps. to 4. I think it is not related to the proprietary nvidia driver. You could test the nv driver to see if it changes anything. My System OS: Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 final. Hi, Thanks for asking... Well, I've been out for a week or so but had the chance to test it before that and everything seems to be ok so far... There's one thing I did and it looks like it was a hardware conflict. A friend of mine suggested to switch both HDD and DVD jumpers on cable select and set them on BIOS to be automatically recognized. I had the HDD set on master and the DVD on slave. After the jumper switch operation Feisty runs smoother and it doesn't freeze anymore ... Right now, it is on permanent watch and if any change, I'll report it here.
