apt would still prefer that the free one by default. The non free would
only be installed should someone request it explicitly.

Dear all,
your help will be appreciated in testing libmono-addins0.2-cil and
libmono-addins-gui0.2-cil, which should be available soon in gutsy-proposed.
If you would like to test them, please add the following lines
to /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy-propo

Hi,
libxcb1.1 has a feature that checks LIBXCB_ALLOW_SLOPPY_LOCK in order
to circumvent problems with some java apps including GWT.

I have one question, so since multiverse is turned on in the
sources.list on a default install ( but nothing is installed from it ) ,
and I install Ubuntu proper, THEN install amarok ontop of that, will apt
prefer the free or non-free version ?
Other than that I'm all for it.

Dear all,
your help will be appreciated in testing tagtool, available in gutsy-proposed.
If you would like to test it, please add the following lines
to /etc/apt/sources.list:

the archive. As the mechanics of using interdiffs for this purpose
were not clear to all participants in the discussion, I've drafted a

Hi again everyone.
In line with my previous thoughts I was looking more for possibilities to
lower barriers requiring the use of medibuntu. The next item I wanted to
address was libdvdcss2, which I'm sure will be stirring a separate
discussion. (This is why I'm starting a separate thread for it).
The other day John Dong and I were talking on IRC about the current
situation with ffmpeg. There are two versions of ffmpeg (and some related
applications) out there: one on our archive and one on medibuntu. The one
on medibuntu is the same source package as the one in our archive but it is

Except that building things as root exposes you to security problems in
package build scripts, and that you actually need to be root for an extended
period of time, which some of us would rather not do, or cannot do.
Well... At least there's fakeroot.
