The second HDD comes from a NAS which stopped working. FS on HDD is ext4.
windows is not showing the disk, so i guess it has no control over it.

when i log in i get this messages:
5 packages can be updated.
3 updates are security updates.
when I do:
sudo aptitude
I can see 3 security updates for mysql are for mysql client, server and
server-core
but i do not know how to install them?
I also see 3 upgradable packages:

pl. advice.
i got confused when, while installing ubuntu server as a VM in VMPlayer. the
installation asked me a question to install GRUB on MBR of the disk??? i did
not want take chances with my XP host OS, so selected NO - now that VM image is
not booting up.
pl help/advice.

i did following see the err i get with apt-get at the bottom.
the eth0 gets all IP config from dhcp, which is working fine.
i added proxy too...
# export ftp_proxy=xx.xx.xx.xx:8080
# export http_proxy=xx.xx.xx.xx:8080
tested with wget
# wget www.yahoo.com

after some googling. i was able to fix this:
original :
/etc/apt/apt.conf
Acquire::http::Proxy xx.xx.xx.xx:8080;
modified apt.conf
/etc/apt/apt.conf
Acquire::http::Proxy http://xx.xx.xx.xx:8080;;
now working :)
