This looks like a very small change, if we confine our attention to the
ntp-server issue (leaving the nis-* related issues for a separate bug).
A debdiff is attached that simply adds the ntp-servers option to the
requests configuration in dhclient.conf.
I have also put a version of the dhcp3 pac

Binary package hint: winbind
My goal is to get users authenticated using Windows Server 2003 SP2,

Thanks for reporting this bug !
Is there anything in the system logs (like a segfault reported in sudo ?)
Do you have a /var/lib/samba directory ?
Anything weird in the /var/lib/samba/*.tdb files (secrets.tdb in particular),
like text log entries in the middle of the binary file ?

I was wondering if this wasn't Ubuntu-specific since I couldn't find any
report elsewhere of a similar problem. It's also introduced in 8.10, and
we didn't have any report of it persisting in 9.04 alpha (so far).
The tdb file corruption mentioned in comment 15 and comment 16 is
interesting. Since
Re-testing this situation on jaunty alpha 6 in an enterprise environment
with a Microsoft DHCP server, it's still not addressed.
The situation is therefore, one of:
- NTP syncs to ntp.ubuntu.com and silently maintains a constant offset from
our local timeserver
- NTP tries to sync to ntp.ubuntu
