On the available evidence that this bug is caused by resolvconf reload squid
too soon, I attach a work-around patch.
It delays any resolvconf reload by 30 seconds if it occurs within 200 seconds
of boot.
Those numbers might well need tuning on other systems, but the patch has solved
the issue

I agree with you : on your computer, it works as I would expect.
My computer was built new this year and I installed 11.10. I upgraded to
12.04 beta version in march I think. I don't think to have installed
very exotic app : only VirtualBox, and Digikam (which is more designed
for KDE).

My trial patch to solve bug #995523 squid3 is killed by
/etc/resolvconf/update-libc.d/squid3 , now lets this bug be triggered instead.
That bug was caused by squid receiving a HUP before the signal handler has been

HUP handling should be delayed (all the handler does is set a variable), so

I'll install php5-dbg and rerun the tests. By the way I couldn't manage to make
the system generate core dumps.

to throw segment violations on script shutdown on certain scripts. The
problem was detected on a Ubuntu 10.04 Server, 32 bits, but I got the

I was also having this problem of SIGSEGVs on php. Disabling mod_deflate
seems to solve it.

Had the same problem, but adding -4 to SSHD_OPTIONS didn't solved,
maybe because I couldn't properly reinitialize sshd.
Had to reenable IPv6 with
sudo sysctl net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=0
