KXstudio repos are safe. I have never had any problems and ardour updates are
coming really fast after release.
I sometimes do the same (recording guitar) with my Lenovo N500 laptop. For this
purpose I only use ardour which starts also jack. If I need some other stuff I
first run qjackctl then
I use Patchage as well as Jack because I get confused with the names of
interfaces, etc., used in jack setup and the connections diagram is easier to
see and understand in Patchage.
True, I noticed the order of devices do indeed change after reboot. And,
additionally, I have tried loading Jack b

I'm having a heck of a time for a couple weeks now just to get Jack and Ardour
set up. My first goal is:
1) Input *.wav file into Ardour track ( = done, success)...I can hear the wav
track thru my headphones via Audiobox USB interface, or thru computer external
speakers via HDA Intel soundcard
I personally would recommend the kxstudio repos in launchpad. There you will
get nearly newest packages.
https://launchpad.net/~kxstudio-team/+archive/ppa
Ardour is version 3.1 there and jack is version 1.9.9.5.
They have packages for precise, quantal and raring.

Start up QJackCTL but don't let it run, so don't press the play/start
button. If you can change the sample rate in QJackCTL save it or click ok.
Then just click the Quit button on QjackCTL and log out and in again. Does
that change anything?
By default the sample rate was set to 44100 on my systems

Hi Edmund,
that's strange. What hardware are you using?

Jack does work in the same way on all Linux distros and never did
resampling. Perhaps you're using QjackCtl and after changing the sample
rate by it's settings dialog it

Hi Guys,
I installed Ubuntustudio on a few computers and I like it.
However in a Beta version Jack responded to changes in sample rate
settings and now that doesn't work anymore???
Is this known? Is there a solution or can it be that it works on one
computer and not on the other?
I need this feat

For the record, you can download Ardour 3 for free from the Ardour site.
You are asked to donate, but some time ago Paul Davis wrote, that it's
usually still possible
