[ubuntu-uk] run Windows XP in Ubuntu

2008-07-10 Thread norman
I want to run a windows application, which will not run under wine, in Ubuntu 8.04. There appear to be a number of techniques and I would be grateful for suggestions as to the most reliable, in your opinion. Thank you. Norman -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com

I installed virtualbox/winXP yesterday, it works really well. I am running photoshop in it and the performance is good. You do need a reasonably beefy machine, I have a Dual core athlon(around 2ghz) and 3gb of ram. The only thing that wasn't working was USB, but this can probably be fixed fairly

Much like Michael I also use virtual-box, but I would add that depending on your circumstances you may need the PUEL edition. This is not open source, but it is still free (as in beer) for personal use. The main feature it has that the open source edition does not is that it can share USB devices

[ubuntu-uk] Samsung C300 mobile with Ubuntu?

2008-07-10 Thread Dianne Reuby
Has anyone connected a Samsung C300 mobile to their Ubuntu PC? I'm thinking I should back up my address book, but I don't want to buy a data cable if it won't work anyway. Mean, me? - never! :) I know this is a pretty basic handset. TIA Dianne -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com
