Thanks, Lucy.
The system monitor gives memory usage as about 38% of about 700 Mb (I have
750 Mb of RAM).
This will create a file called
dmesg.txt in your home directory. Can you copy the contents into a
pastebin and give us a link please?
I think its time for me to upgrade to a newer version. I would like a fresh
install.
Does anyone know if i can install Linux Mint ( from a usb drive) ?
All i have to do is set the periperal as first boot right?
Out of interest how many people here prefer mint over the normal ubuntu
flavour?

You can use unetbootin (which is cross platform) to copy an iso to a
USB stick and make it all nicely bootable. So long as your

You can't just copy an iso to the USB stick. It needs to be unpacked
in a certain way, hence me suggesting you use unetbootin.
Cheers,
Al.

Okay. It all looks fine so far (I don't know how long the machine was
running for though?). However, I did notice that it tried to resume
from disk, but this failed so it started normally. I imagine
Try atop rather than top (sudo apt-get install atop) - it gives you
more information on virtual memory and swap space, as it seems to me
that your issue may be a lack of available memory causing excessive
swapping.

Hi guys perhaps you can help.
I'm producing a customised Ubuntu alternate CD at the moment so we can
install Ubuntu at work with a custom set of packages, in our case,
orientated towards Asterisk.
I've followed the instructions on the Ubuntu Wiki and the iso image
appears to work fine on a

Hi I was wondering if anybody knows of an Image Hosting that works with

I tried Imageshack, but cant get that to work either.
AFAIK they should or do work for me.
Anyone?
however, I use BayImg by

I use mint (have for a bout a year) and yes you can install it from a
usb drive just like Ubuntu.

I have to say that I didn't like Mint at all... took me ages to
reconfigure it so that it reverted to, effectively, a default Ubuntu.
In terms of Linux I think I'm a Ubuntu man through and through - not
really sure what Mint is trying to do but it's not my thing I'm
afraid.

Paul stated earlier that his memory usage was only 38%. It also
wouldn't explain the boot time getting longer..
Startup being slow could be any one of a number of things.
If he booted without the splash screen perhaps he can see at what point the
thing hangs and report back, as I'd imagine it

Based in a similar problem I had over the weekend. Have you tried
removing the usb stick and putting it back in when it's searching for
the install media?
Just tried it. It doesn't seem to be making any difference..
Okay, missed that.
I find atop rather good because it lists used memory against
committed memory, and if the latter is actually more than exists (ie.
physical+virtual memorycommitted memory) it's a sure sign that
there's something eating memory like there is no tomorrow - and it
paints it in red

Hi
We too had problems with Hardy and Firefox, and several exchanges with

and ended up directing us to use the 'accessibility' site - you get
directed to it when you sign on, if Javascript is disabled. It doesn't
look as nice,
