I would like to tether my laptop and phone.(so that i can use the wifi
on my phone..to connect the laptop to connect to the internet)I have no
wirless router. Its connected via a wire.
Is this possible?

thats correct...i want to use my internet connection from my ubuntu pc
(which has wifi). I want to connect my android phone to it and then use the
wifi for browsing on my phone!.
I know the other way round is possible...just wondering if this is doable!

I did this the other way around over a year ago at an Ubuntu Developer
Summit.

rather than USB. Or, failing that, what about an adaptor like this
and just use a normal phone??

I upgraded my desktop from Xubuntu 9.04 to 9.10, and did a clean install of
Xubuntu 9.10 on my laptop.
I find that the notifications on my laptop have the new appearance; white on
black with blurring text as the notication fades. My desktop, however, still
