just installed Nvidia's latest drivers plus the vdpau libraries and XBMC it
works perfectly.

repository and that was pretty much it. I put a couple of tweaks in my
mplayer config to make it buffer and force it to use

it should work with a 40" screen. it's the resolution size that matters not
the physical size.
as long as the screen and box can display the same resolution it should be
fine.
