I'm currently experiencing this problem in Kubuntu (9.04) and the 180.44
nvidia driver. This has happened several times. While there are
several user sessions, When I switch from one (A) to the other (B), it
is not uncommon for A to crash while I am using B.

I have manually installed the nvidia drivers for 180.60 and my system is
stable since. I upgraded recently to KDE 4.3 Beta 2 and tried at the
same time 180.44 again which resulted in 2 crashes in one afternoon
(pixelated screens etc ...)
I will keep testing this driver release from NVidia and
this issue is still present on Karmic Alpha 2
