In response to hlxshady's previous post, I will sometimes leave my PC on
overnight with Pidgin and firestarter only running and come back to a
slow and unresponsive PC due to Xorg using 100% CPU. I have installed
the patch and it fixes the problem pretty well. Gnome-Do still has about
a 1/2 to 3/4

referring to the upstream bug report you linked. The proper method to
disable it is radeon.modeset=0, I was under the impression nomodeset
was an i915 specific option. this bug is fixed with linux-image-2.6.31-2
