onyxrev, thanks for testing this on Karmic. If you also have this
problem on Karmic, please report it in a new bug report instead of
adding it to this bug report (preferably with the `ubuntu-bug -p
xserver-xorg-video-intel` from the running Karmic LiveCD). This allows

I had the same problem after upgrading to 9.10 alpha.
The fix was to
:/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/11-x11-synaptics.fdi
sudo cp /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/11-x11-synaptics.fdi
/etc/hal/fdi/policy/
Reboot
Go under System - Preferences - Mouse
Go under the Touchpad tab
Here is a fix until the bug is fixed, I have been using it on another
computer for a different compiz related issue. I found it during a
search a long time ago and had worked well.
#!/bin/bash
sleep 2
DISPLAY=:0.0 compiz --only-current-screen --replace
disown $!
sleep 2
DISPLAY=:0.1 compiz
I installed the new nvidia-driver
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_amd64_173.14.20.html
it works for me

OK, Now I'm not sure what to do with this bug... I found the solution,
it's not with nvidia, the problem was caused because somehow during the
upgrade from 9.04 to karmic alpha 5 the HUE setting in Totem got moved
all the way to one side.
This could be an issue for users upgrading from 9.04, so I
I did a fresh Ubuntu Karmic Alpha 5 install (which luckily already
included your newer drivers) at seems that the problems are gone. I
would still like to use the system a little longer before being sure.
I definitely ran into less problems during the upgrade progress until
now karmic. Means:
