I now have a definitve answer. I found the Maintanance and Service Guide for my laptop. It reads: 32 MB of discrete video memory. At least it shows, that lspci does not report the actual video memory, and if the Xorg log doesn't report it either, answering this question is non trivial. The bug

To summarize this bug up, I think there is a problem in the coding that allows these intel graphics controllers to read the EDID information from the monitors...I do not know if code needs to be written for each EDID, or how the EDID is designed, but the conflict and solution would seem to lie
