It ends up that 'radeon.new_pll=0' didn't really change the behavior.
The screen seemed to flicker just as much.
Bryce, 'radeon.modeset=0' really did cause the problem to completely

graphic-cards in their binary driver, you'll have to wait a while until the

monitor nor with the external monitor.
When I work with my installed Karmic and the nvidia-driver only the external

get pkg-config to give me cflags or libs for one specific library, even
though that library's dependencies were fully satisfied, and I was
mystified until I tried running "pkg-config --list-all" and saw the

Just confirming that this is still a problem for me on Lucid (no
multi-touch whatever I do). At least now though,
gnome-mouse-properties has "2 finger scroll" greyed out. When I called
up gsynaptics, it had "Enable Touchpad" unchecked and checking it and
closing gsynaptics had no observable effects
The two "new" letters btw., are currently on '\' and Shift+'\'. So,
Ubuntu does support them, they are just in a different position. :)
