I'm pretty sure that when the bug first appeared (in Jaunty) I was
running the same version of nvidia's drivers in both Intrepid and
Jaunty, and Intrepid didn't have the problem.
Note it's not just the nvidia driver that has a problem - VirtualBox's
video driver also doesn't refresh the screen.

Can you please boot the system in a way it fails, then restart it in
safe graphics mode and run apport-collect 544088 to attach the logs?
That way it will include the old logs with the failure in it so we can
try to troubleshoot it more.

Can you please paste the output of
sudo update-alternatives --config gl_conf
and the contents of

As well as the output of

Sorry for the trouble and thanks! What native 32 bit app are you having
problems with? This is not a problem on
** Description changed:
When I switch to console back to X using Ctrl+Alt+F1/Ctrl+Alt+F7, X
crashes and returns me to the login screen.
I believe this has something to do with TwinView, as this wasn't
happening before when I was using Xinerama on the same drivers.
I'm using
Is this an installation or Live CD?
Is this using the 32-bit or 64-bit version?

I upgraded to lucid now and the sync seems fine with 1:6.12.191-1ubuntu2
(radeonhd OTOH seems to be completely broken now). But what I can see
(and I can even take screenshots of it, see attachments) are random
horizontal bars popping up and vanishing again. I have no idea what
cases this. Oh, and
I closed out of all gnome-terminals and killed guake. The intermittent
flickering did not cease.

Additional Info: After thinking about it more, I started xterm and
killed off gnome-pty-helper thinking that it may be part of the problem.
The intermittent flicker remains.

I have the same problem. The screen has just got really bright for no
reason, and there seems to be no way to control it using software. It
started happening after I updated recently. I'm using a Radeon HD 4350
on an AMD64 installation

Xorg crash after failure to suspend on lid close [Xorg assert failure: X:

`pI830-batch_ptr != ((void *)0)' failed.]
This has been fixed with lucid's nvidia-settings updates, the problem
stemmed from using the old 180 version nvidia-settings with a 185+
driver.

This problem has not been fixed as of lucid beta or the March 28 daily lucid
build (I just tested both with the same result as before). The issue seems
to affect users with LCD TV's (and possibly nvidia video cards) but the bug
disapears when one plugs in their computer to an LCD monitor.
I've also got this on beta 1, 2.6.32-17, netbook asus 1005 pe.
