after switching from VirtualBox to real hardware, the good old
ATI-Backclear-Bug appears. Doing nice things as searching for another linux
distribution i decided to give lucid a chance. As described in the artikle
below i downloaded patch and the actual X server and patched it folloing

If you mean that the video driver autoconfig works differently when
there's an xorg.conf, then the autoconfig/fallback patch from SUSE fixes
that. And if there's a Driver section in xorg.conf, the autoconfig path
is bypassed (like before).

support), however I spoke with Arne about this and he said it looked
like this was an improperly set up .Xmodmap. If you can reproduce a bug

a bug against really old hardware, which is not really much of a
priority for us. Third, it's a performance issue, which while important

specific issue I'm not going to do any further work on it. You might

Confirmed in Lucid Beta 1 with updates (updated online from Karmic) on
Acer laptop which does *not* have an NVidia card in it. Screen is
reversed as per Bug #544774 (Duplicate). gdm still as per Karmic, not
Lucid. No xorg.conf file in /etc/X11, although there never has been.

The odd time it does boot up properly with KMS on, (to be clear here, it
boots up ok if I set nomodeset at grub...) it will crash in the exact

This seems likely to be an output enablement issue, which with KMS is an
issue in the kernel drm, so I'm refiling to the kernel.
It would be instructive if you could attempt to reboot with KMS disabled
and see if that makes any difference.

Is this a regression? Were you able to play 3D games with earlier
versions? Please try re-booting with earlier kernels (go into grub to
select them) and see if that is sufficient to get the 3D games to work
properly again.
Since disabling KMS is enough to make this work properly, I'm gathering

click with right mouse-button on your desktop - change wallpaper (in
