I had a similar problem, but I only have one graphics card.
On 32bit Lucid everything worked fine, but on 64bit Lucid all of the
nvidia drivers cause the system to not load a graphical environment, but
I can still use a tty to uninstall the driver and go back to nouveau.

OK. I have found a workaround to this. I am attaching the changed
/etc/gdm/Init/Default which does the trick for me (I added line 14).
Note that I shut down LVDS because I keep the lid of the laptop shut. It
may be different for others.

Well, it's different. The xf86-input-wacom does not appear to accept
rotation commands via xsetwacom. Do you know the new method? I'm not
having a lot of luck finding instructions.

Same here. 2 nVidia 8600GT SLi cards. Upgraded my 32-bit from Hardy to
Lucid and immediately crashed on reboot. Installed 64-bit from CD on
second hdd (ran into the dmraid problem there, lost all data on my
primary drive, bleh) and every time I install either the 173 or -current
drivers, I get a cr

What you posted elsewhere was a problem with an old driver, this has not to be
fixed by Ubuntu devs because it is no part of Ubuntu yet.
Regarding the blog linked by Ricardo #96 the driver works with 64bit. Where is
your problem exactly?

My CRT monitor goes to sleep mode after the booting screens end loading.
It happens booting from the CD or hard disk installation. I successfully
installed Lucid Lynx but with a borrowed display. After I booted, logged
in and completely loaded Ubuntu

I'm not totally sure, but this might be tied to an upstream bug:

It looks like there's a patch attached. Might be worth trying to apply
the patch and install a patched version of the driver...
