When KMS is not turned off I experience "traditional" system freezes.
This happens on lucid. Switching off the messaging is supposed to fix
it, it however does not.
Here's what I find in the kern.log (a freeze happens May 4, 20:47)
I've installed Lucid (a dual boot on the same hardware) now to test this
issue.
Result: Lucid has fixed the problem. Additionally I don't get the
picture corruption reported by my colleague either.
As a side note: the open source radeon driver is now working almost
perfectly in Lucid too (eg dual
Lucid Xorg, e.g., the window switcher, is much slower than Karmic even without
dri/kms
Some of the application is taking up more memory than it used to:

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xorg
Dual screen configuration was working fine with 9.10 with extended
desktop. I use 2x19" monitors both set to 1600x1200.
The screen seems to have been correctly drawn (3200x1200) in the desktop
chooser applet.
