As far as I can tell, this always happens when the monitor powers off
after 1/2 hour of inactivity. If I leave the screensaver on indefinitely
without having the monitor power off, it never seems to happen.
By the way, why is this tagged hardy? I have only had this problem
under Lucid.

I also have this issue. It's a bit annoying, as my pen worked on 9.10,
and suddenly, it's stopped. Unfortunately, my eraser doesn't work any
more, so I can't test if it's exactly the same issue as above; but it
seems to me that it probably is. Only sees eraser. Running up Gimp
recognises the pen

Strange thing is (and this is a home laptop, not part of my work
project) it runs fine after reboot, then after some time the flickering
starts to come back when the CPU gets loaded up. I was also mainly
addressing Robert Hooker's comment:
JC: 915GM wasn't affected by this, and we disabled FBC on
looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log
the end of the file seems to indicate a loop as it outputs the data stream
about the Dell 19 monitor 8 times then just dies with no log ends message.
In the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old it is output 9 times but there is a log ends
message.

Incidentally: I did have it 'working' once since being on 10.04. It
didn't work properly - the pen would only register location when
pressing down. Anyway, next time I booted (after some messing about to
try and make it work properly) and it didn't work again.

Continuing to try to narrow this bug down... I've been running XFCE all
day rather than Gnome and can conclusively say that the bug is not
present under XFCE.
