Just happened again, except this time the machine wasn't idle; I was
editing a file with gvim. Xorg had been running for about two days.

I had the same problem in lucid. Looks to be a video driver issue
though. Tried updating to the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver from the
x-updates PPA and after doing this I haven't had any crashes happen on

I've been able to work around the problem by limiting the mouse and
window transitions between screens. It seems the problem is not how many
transitions you make between the screens, but how fast you make them. If
you mostly work in in between the screens, you have a higher chance of
hitting this

(RV100) and it goes right (except the slowness of some applications such as

My Xubuntu 9.10 computer freezes at some arbitrary time /after/ I resume
from suspend. Reproduction steps:
1) Boot up, log in.
2) Suspend.
3) Resume.
4) Continue working, will eventually freeze with no CAPS flash.

From ppa, I installed xserver-xorg-video-intel version
2:2.11.0-1ubuntu1~xup and then nvidia-bkms-0.16.9 lucid, but the problem
persist, I can't change the brightness. I try also without nvidia-bkms.

HI, I have a N61jv with the same problem : I changed the settings as
proposed, but the fnctF9 enable/disable touchpad, still doesnt work.

I'm attempting to get standby/resume to work on my c640 running Ubuntu 10.04.
I'm pretty sure that it had been working in past releases, but isn't working
reliably now...
I tried modifying /etc/X11/xorg.conf with the instructions on the quirks page

I am running two instances of mplayer with -vo xvid (which was not possible
before kms on i915).

Duplicated on Kubuntu 10.04. Running KDM with either KDE or fluxbox
results in blank screen on logout (exit) from X session. SSH from
another computer reveals that Xorg is at 100% cpu. Kill xorg followed by
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart from ssh will get you back up and running.

Forgot to add,
Using AGPMode 1 and 8 resuming from either lid or menu standby results in the
blank screen, backlight is on, but no disk activity or anything, requiring a
hardboot.
In AGPMode 2 almost the same as AGPMode 4, but there are random
occurrences of the above symptoms.

GDM being the cause 96 as the issue. I just reproduced on a gnome
machine (again) and top is showing xorg at 99.5%. However, in my case, I
can't seem to kill Xorg (even using 'sudo su'). Starting stopping gdm
