I am experiencing bug #550850 (which is also duplicated several times),
whose main symptom is garbled screen output followed at some length by a
crash in compiz, with the error message "Failed to parse relocation
-12!" in dmesg. There may be a correlation between these two bugs.

Installed the Glasenhart 855-drm patch (stable) and then the intel driver.
Improved overall stability and performance, but Google Earth still brought
system down, as did OpenGL screensavers with frequency. Then added Brian
Roger's Mesa fix, after which Google Earth functioned perfectly, although
I need to clarify, I uninstalled the "xserver-xorg-video-ati" and
"xserver-xorg-video-radeon" packages from synaptic, not just searched
for them. Having two ati drivers packages installed was probably causing
errors and preventing me from installing fglrx, as well as having to
rename /usr/share/ati

Hi,
I own a Dell XPS M1530 and the default Lucid kernel is unusable because of a
bug with the nouveau driver. Basically, it boils down to a bad EDID problem:
I swapped out my 6-6-6-18 memory for a 4-4-4-`1 memory and my freezing
seems to ahve gone away. Of note is that my BIOS is supposed to offer
667MHz memory support, but it is not shown as a selection int he BIOS
config. I have been running the system around-the-clock with
Thunderbird running for 4
Agreed, reboot solves the problem. So update should have been marked as
"restart required", but at this point I think the bug should just be
marked resolved.
