The Reason for this on Maverick is the package unclutter. I never
noticed this tool in Lucid, so I guess it's new. I didn't find a way to
disable it, so I pruged it. Maybe the default behavior should be
changed.

I'm using an old fx5500 video card, so I can't use driver 195.36.15. The newest
driver is 173.x.x. So there's no fix for me...

Appeared after an update maybe one weak ago. After a reboot the systems freezes
with artefacts. Only solution to fix this was to user the recovery console and
change /etc/X11/xorg.conf driver to ati and removed fglrx.
Installation of fglrx always results in the same error. I can install

No, the release ISOs never change after release. If you can't get 10.04
LTS installed due to this bug, please try installing using the
alternative ISO which has a text mode installer I think. Once 10.04 LTS

away from compiz. This bug is not affected by disabling compiz.

I also see this same deadlock infrequently on my GM45 x200s which has a
significantly different graphics chip, so might not be the same problem.

of now we need the information that Leo demanded for reporting your bug
upstream.
