I'd like to note that I am affected by this issue as well. However I did
find a work around on my system (mint 9, ubuntu 10.04).
Right after the symptoms begin to pop up and my computer freezes except
for the one window, I press ctrl alt backspace, drop back into log in
screen, log back in, and us
I might add that plugging in or plugging out the USB cable causes GDM to
exit without saving and restart. In Karmic, the Xserver just used to
freeze occasionally or cause text on screen to be selected without
releasing the selection mechanism. The only way out of this was to
unplug the Wacom tablet

Confirm this bug using Nvidia + TwinView + Compiz. Turning off Compiz

PS: I will emphasize that this release introduces too many changes
compared to the existing 2.11.8 releases and that producing such a patch
