Well, the latest production kernel, 2.6.32-25-generic-pae seems to fix
everything on my X201, so long as /etc/X11/xorg.conf has been either
moved or deleted. W00t! It's only taken six months, but I guess it was
worth the wait to have a laptop I can use with a projector :-)

Yeah the GDM login window. Plymouth is fine and gnome is fine but the
GDM is incorrect.
You seem to be implying the the GDM resolution is supposed to be
different. Its never been different before and it now looks like
complete garbage.

is running, and then fairly often.
I did try an older version of tvtime, but maybe not old enough... I'll

I am just asking. Why did Ubuntu 9.04 work so well and there was no issue
with my hard ware, but ever since, beginning with 9.10, this problem has
persisted. What Changed and why not go back to that version of X?

I have updated to the nvidia 260.19.06 drivers (Bug #629910) which seems
to have solved the desktop sluggines issue, however any changes to the
xfce appearance settings still do not take effect. The actual xfce

Hey,
I had similar messages on a Thinkpad r51 in which I came back from
sleep. Things worked enough to have a mouse move around, to be able to
switch virtual terminals, even to login if I could guess where to click,
but none of the widgets would get drawn on X anymore.
I did not solve the bug
I just updated my system (maverick) and quadrapassel is still not
working for me.

@kurt belgrave, I did not have flickers or flashes again in exactly the
same conditions in Maverick, ie the login or when changing the display
properties. That is, with regard to this bug I think that no longer
happens in Maverick, but with desktop effects enabled is a bad
performance in general:
Also stops working after switching keyboard layouts.
Worked in Ubuntu 10.04, bug introduced after upgrade to 10.10.
xinput test (id of my mouse) outputs button press 1 and button
release 1 when I click left mouse button, but clicks don't have any
effect on any GUI elements.

As a start, I'd look at the rc files that dpkg -L bash lists, e.g.,
/etc/skel/.bashrc
/etc/bash.bashrc
and also your own scripts. You might also get a list of files using

The change in g-s-d that triggered the broken screen will be reverted
(in post-release updates), so the screen will come up like it should.
There is however a bug in the video drivers that allows a broken screen
mode to be selected.
