This is really weird... the -intel GPU lockup handler was triggered, but

see the popups for GPU lockups after:

$ sudo apt-get update

Has anyone tried testing apw's PPA (ppa:apw/purple)?
I don't know if we can put the fix into Ubuntu until someone tests it
and confirms it does fix the issue.
We've not been able to reproduce this bug synthetically ourselves, so we
really do need help from a subscriber of this bug report to test

Same black screen (with cursor) with Ubuntu 10.10 and Intel drivers.
Note, I didn't have this on 32bit, this is on amd64.
This is with a vanilla install and haven't been able to reproduce it. It
happens say 30% of the times.
