I have a ThinkPad X220T (convertible tablet) which has Intel graphics as well. I have the same issue when I rotate using xrandr manually, or with the screen resolution applet. The area of screen which is "blank" is still usable by the dock and menubar, but does not seem to have rotated properly.

I had pre-released updates enabled from the start, so that didn't help me. But I've given up now and installed the proprietary ATI graphics drivers. That fixed it for me.
