Greg suggested doing a particular keypress combination ( cntl-
AppleCommand-T) while Plymouth was loading. That put us into a CLI of
sorts, and eventually the live disk desktop loaded cleanly. All the
problems reported above went away.

xrandr-tool crashed with NameError in __main__: name '_' is not

The colord crash happens every time I log in over vnc, even when I start
dwm instead of unity.
The xorg crash only happens with unity. Just installed -dbgsym in the
hopes of getting a backrace.

System is doing fine on 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~precise2 regarding crashes.
However, touchpad does not work OK! That little red pointer-thing (on
my Lenovo) works though. Also scrolling on the touchpad works.

Happening on System 76 Lemur (lemu3, early 2012 version). It has only
started happening since the last kernel update (3.2.0-29).

NATURALLY once -dbgsym is installed this becomes much harder to
reproduce, implying this is a timing related bug.
Unfortunately unpacking a previous /var/run/_usr_bin_Xorg.0.crash file
and running 'sudo gdb /usr/bin/X CoreDump' doesn't give any sort of
backtrace.

Have the same problem, using ubuntu 12.10 up to date, but happened also
on 12.04. and earlier. It became really frequent on 12.10.

Is there a plan for resolving the issue with nvidia-96 or is nVidia
unlikely to provide the same update for those cards? I have a GeForce MX
4000 that worked fine in 11.10 but now doesn't, and the 173 drivers
