Yes I did, with Optimus turned off, the system will use the discrete video card.
And the HDMI video output works.
So it is why we have this hypothesis in comment #8.

Erm, disregard all that, like N hours later I discovered that the
display's power button and reconnecting the DP cable weren't enough--
finally unplugged the whole display from wall power, in desperation, and
it came back online just fine. Must've been a false correlation with the

13.04 caused my DisplayPort external monitor to stop working. This is an
Intel i915 adapter. Rebooting and re-plugging the display in various

the mouse via touchpad until the lost-sync event was trigged.

Thank you for taking the time to report this crash and helping to make
this software better. This particular crash has already been reported
and is a duplicate of bug #1033533, so is being marked as such.
This bug is still there in Kubuntu 13.04. Installing Xorg from the
Debian repository as a workaround still works and multitouch is still
lost.
It seems to affect desktop environments / programs which use some
specific X11 API (supposition to be verified).

Marwan's solution worked for me.
I'm using 'GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pcie_aspm=force acpi=off"'
in my /etc/default/grub file.
and I've added 'echo 0 >/proc/sys/kernel/nmi_watchdog' to my /etc/rc.local file.
