After automatic upgrade of nvidia-current package nvidia driver is not loaded
and screen resolution is small.
Nvidia kernel module is not loaded, nouveau is not loaded too. It seems that
system is on fallback (vesa) mode.

I got the same problem. Tried changing swappiness, but with no luck. It
freezes randomly (CPU usage doesn't seem to make any difference).
If it freezes, I can ctrl+tab+f1-6, and then ctrl+tab+f7, and then
everything is good again. Anybody else got this?

Looking in /sys/class/backlight/ lists 3 folders on my Dell inspiron 7520.
One of the folders is intel_backlight .
Manually doing
root@Sirius:~# echo 2000 /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
works.
