I have tried Aaron's patches myself and they do make the Failed to
claim DRM device. error messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log disappear and
the log looks like the NVIDIA driver is working fine, but I still boot
to a black screen.
So there is either another problem, or those patches don't quite fix

The default kernel 3.19.0-26-generic in Lubuntu 64-bit AMD64 seems to
have trouble with the additional restricted drivers from AMD / ATI,
despite being listed as compatible. This doesn't happen to me in any
other Ubuntu distribution or fork, only Lubuntu.

I use Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 with privative AMD/ATI video driver (fglrx-
updates) for my Raedon HD5450 video card. I just opened a hi-res video
file (MP4 1920x1080 60fps) using GNOME Videos (Totem) application.
Framerate was pretty slow and has no sound (although video file has

Thanks - this is now fixed for me.
Still hard to understand how 2 kernels have come out over a week with this bug
which must have effected thousands of users. Novice users who do not know how
to boot to a previous kernel now have a bricked installation and may never

Every time i would try to login, the screen went black for a second then
it went back to the login screen, i tried to open the terminal with ctrl
+ alt + f1-f6, byt the screen just went black, but ctrl + alt +f7 worked

After the upgrade to kernel version 3.19.0-26-generic fglrx fails to build the
needed DKMS module and renders the GUI non-functional. Had to remove all fglrx
packages to get a working Xsession again.
Converting back to 3.19.0-25 solved the DKMS module building problem.

so i system automatically upgraded fglrx. But there where some issues.

I tried to remove fglrx and rebuild xserver-xorg since fglrx results in
boot loop with kernel 26 on 15.04. I got into root prompt on recovery
mode and ran apt-get remove --purge fglxr* and xserver-xorg. I then
ran apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-core,
