Same problem with 10 different laptops. This is serious! (Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS)
In my case the HTML5 player (triggered from Chromium/Opera/Firefox etc.) does
this terrible freeze. (only the pointer is alive)
After the freeze switching to another TTYx takes about a MINUTE (Ctrl+Alt+Fx).
