Looked at the Additional Drivers on Software & Updates and noticed that
the driver for the Intel CPU was not enabled (Do Not Use was selected)
Given that right now I don't have much to loose, I enabled the additional
driver.
I now get a black screen with the latest Kernel, but no more flashing in

Default Xenial setup for libspice-server1-0.12.6-4ubuntu0.1 breaks Xspice
rendering for clients. Also slows down client init.
While connecting with the same spice-client (Ubuntu 14 and windows) to CentOS 7
Xspice server work like a charm!

I found a workaround to the problem, I added irqpoll to grub boot options and
it worked.
Both mouse and the keyboard are working smooth.

Seems to have gotten worse with the next batch of updates
(linux-image-4.4.0-47-generic:amd64); now it won't show a screen at all, even
when booting to multiuser, after the kernel sets the
graphics mode. Works fine if I give nomodeset, but then I can't use
accelerated graphics.

This is also an issue when we have cloned displays.
We need to be able to scale down to a fake mode. My laptop screen only runs at
1080p and if I have an external monitor plugged in with a lower resolution (eg
720), the only valid resolution will be the lower one.

Have a similar issue here, I can no longer use my Blender, FreeCAD and OpenSCAD.
I do not get the black screen but Blender and FreeCAD crash and OpenSCAD will
not display the model.

My old laptop (a Samsung NP300E5Z, originally with Precise and upgraded
