I think that's correct. The AST2500 looks like only a 2D graphics chip
and isn't a "GPU". So Xorg needs to use software rendering there.

Yes, the patch in comment #7 is only a workaround but that might be as
good as it gets while no developer ever has access to the hardware.
Please reformat the gdm3 patch with more details about what's being
fixed, and then:
1. Attach a patch for Ubuntu 18.10, and subscribe 'ubuntu-sponsors'.

Daniel, the KDE menu bar colour problem I experienced and noted in bug
#1780664 also went away when I upgraded to the new xorg-server.
I had to reboot and upgrade all my packages twice in order to get the
latest. You might try checking to ensure that you have all the latest
