At present this machine is running Manjaro and unfortunately I don't have time to load Ubuntu on it. However I did try 18.04 recently and I don't believe that it had the bug. I was able to specify to Steam to run on the discrete graphics and it ran as expected using DRI_PRIME=1. I didn't run this
