This is new to 20.10.04.1, it was working fine in 20.10.04 -- the
upgrade broke it.
The problem is bad in bash but is particularly bad in gdb -tui. In
addition to having to press ^L a lot, I now have to press ^l then space
to get the final paint to occur.
