My hardware is Intel Corporation 82845G Integrated Graphics Controller
and after updating to the xserver-xorg-video-intel-2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7
driver today, much of the same issues exist. All that was fixed it
appears, is the artifacts in menus and window headers and painting
issues in LibreOffice
My experience has been very similar. I must note however that if you
use the Ubuntu (no effects) login the silly blinking actions of the
desktop and menus do not occur. You can at least see the desktop and
menus properly. Some of the graphics in titlebar and progressbar window
adornment display it

What a monumental fubar. There are millions of Intel 8xx machines out
there worldwide. Most have the Dell brand like mine. Exactly what drives
such a decision that excludes so many people. I for one will not go out
and purchase compatible equipment. Is Ubuntu "nudging" users into their
idea of what
