a recent security fix to the nvidia drivers causes poor performance.
The suggested solution is to downgrade to a patched version of the
295.33 drivers.

drivers/+bug/983323, except my issue is not with suspend/resume and I
see no graphical corruption. Instead, performance is affected (~8 fps in
glxgears, kwin effects turn off).

Looks like I may have the same error. It first occurred after I updated
the packages below. So far, the error occurs every time I reboot, but
the onset varies. Sometimes the system freezes before the login
screen even comes up, other times it freezes at the login screen, and a
