I found out, why there where no logs attached. The needed apport hooks are part
of the xdiagnose package, which is not installed by default.
So now I started and ran into the nonresponding unitysession and ran

So I installed the new kernel, added drm.debug=6 to its command line and ran
apport-collect after the X Session got unresponsive. Additional now I also
wasnt able to do anything on the machine after switching to a other VT (it not
even showed the login promt, only the last lines from boot

I get complete freezes running Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit on an Intel Ivy
Bridge machine with integrated graphics.
For me, one way to induce a freeze is to randomly drag the map in Google
Maps, both in Firefox and Chromium. The freeze will occur within a few
seconds of dragging. This happens in Unity 3D

playback), not only with MPlayer, but also with VLC, when I moved the VLC
window, and with the Parole Media Player, as soon as I started playing a video.

My setup:
Thinkpad X201 in Ultrabase connected to external monitor via hdmi-DVI (using

All worked as expected in Ubuntu 10.10.

I have a Sony VAio VPCS11C5E with a Nvidia GT310m graphics card and its
the same as described by DeBo. On Natty alpha 1 the display and the
external monitor worked, I was able to configure them separately, but on
Natty alpha 2 the display remains black after GRUB.

256.53-driver, I tried not to use the CustomEdid option, but then the
notebook's display remains black, only the external monitor works. When
I use the CustomEdid otpion, both displays work well, even in TwinView.

Unfortunately, I have exactly the same problem and a similiar laptop (Sony
F12Z1E).
The problem is that my laptop crashes at start therefore I can't get any logs.
The only way to use my installation now is to use the non-nvidia driver.

My model: Sony Vaio VPCF12Z1E.
It is possible that this bug has an relationship to the following bugs: #655078
and #655032
Both authors use a similiar notebook as it seems.
Also: if I am right there is no way for downloading a binary driver of
that version (260.19.06)
