This issue is caused by lightdm running /usr/sbin/lightdm-session
instead of /etc/X11/Xsession.
The simplest workaround for me was:
- introduce has_option functon as 1st step in Xsession.d sourced scripts
- as root create file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/01custom-has-option with following
content:

There is no "problem" per se. It's just that Ubuntu's version of `xvfb-
run` is not really compatible/consistent with the one in other distros.
Some distros have deprecated `--auto-servernum` in favor of a different
setting `--auto-display` which I guess does something "better". I'm just
saying

Arch Linux `auto-servernum` is marked as deprecated. Googling `auto-

I'm getting a similar bug in 16.04 on my Inspiron 6400 with X1300 and a
1680x1050 display. I have disabled graphical overlays during boot
because I prefer to see boot text. Corruption starts after the switch
from ordinary VGA text mode to a high resolution text mode which I
assume is implemented

I hit this problem after installing a second keyboard layout. I was
able to reenable the right Alt key by going to the Keyboard Preferences
- Layouts - Layout Options - Key(s) to Change Layout and unchecking
Both Alt keys together. Go figure. From what I can tell, using both
alt keys to switch
I'm happy to provide more details about my system, but it looks like
apport-collect is only available in 9.04? Let me know if there's any
data I should gather from my 8.10 setup. I've been reluctant to upgrade
because of the reported problems with the Intel chipset video driver in
9.04.
